Aggression In 2 1/2 Year Old Australian Shepherd

by Amber
(Alabama)

We have a 2 1/2 yr old Australian Shepherd. When she was a baby and we gave her treats, if you reached down to pet her she would growl. We would tell her no. And at times take the treat. She has never snapped or bitten anyone.

I got her a new toy, she was laying in the floor with it, I reached down to pet her and she growled. I told her no. Took the toy. I really don't know how to handle this.

She isn't mean or aggressive, but her growling is not okay. We got her as a puppy, and she is an only furchild.

Any insight would be appreciated.

what she is doing is telling you that it's her item, toy or treat and that it belongs to her. I would seek out a trainer now before it gets worse. This is something you will need to have a trainer do, as they need to see her behavior in person to know whats going on.
