Using the Crate

As I said previously, there's nothing cruel or unusual about leaving your dog in her crate – as long as she's been trained to be comfortable there. If you've gone through the right process, she'll see the crate as her home and feel perfectly happy when you leave her in there.

That said, don't leave the dog in her crate all day while you're at work. You should only leave her in the crate for more than a few hours if it's night time and she'll be sleeping. It's not fair to leave her in there for eight hours without a break when she's awake.

If you do need an area to contain your pup when you're at work, use a puppy pen. These are bigger and give your dog a bit of room to move around freely.
