Australian Shepherd Blowing Coat

Chloe before blowing coat or heat

My Aussie started blowing her coat in July right around the time she went into her first heat. It started with her buttfluff, now the inside of her back legs is totally naked. Her back has bald spots and she just looks so scraggly. How long does it usually take for the new under coat to grow in?

Bald spots?
by: jcrply

You said she has "bald spots". Do you mean she actually has areas with no hair? That is not normal shedding, and if that is the case you need to have your vet check her skin.

bald spots

Yes bald spots. Her butt is totally bare. The inside of her hind legs is bare, and the small of her back close to her bum has what i would call bald spots. Im beginning to think this isnt a normal blown coat because her skin is now flaking and she has developed black spots where the bald spots are. And yes def a vet visit.
