Australian Shepherd Coat

by Randy
(Wood Dale, IL)

I have two Aussies, one female, one male. The coat on my male is very full like a cotton ball, the coat on my female is very thin and not full at all. Is this normal or is there something wrong? Thanks for your help.

Dog Coat

I wouldn't worry about it. Males (in all breeds, especially when the breed are known to have full coats) are known to have fluffier coats than females.
I know that when I went to pick up my Aussie, I was able to meet the sire, and he was gorgeous, with his buff look, that my mom was worried about the fur shedding and all the grooming that has to be done in order to maintain it. My female ended up being fluffy (especially around the butt) but not to the extent of the sire.
