I have a 5 month old male Australian Shepherd and I was wondering when the best time to get him fixed is?

After maturity

Many recent studies have indicated that neutering male dogs before full maturity can have adverse effects on health, including increased risk of various cancers, cruciate ligament tears, noise phobias and fear aggression, and increased risk of hip dysplasia. Ideally you should wait until your dog is full grown and fully matured, probably 18-24 months.
