Can A Black Tri And Blue Merle Produce A Red Tri?

by Donell
(Nevada)

I recently purchased a new red tri puppy, but I'm confused after seeing the parents. The mother is a blue merle and dad is a black tri! I don't fully understand all the genetics and coloring, but I thought with a blue merle and black tri, that's those are the only colors you will get.

Then I started reading about the colors and if there's a red gene in one of them, it's possible to get a red tri... Is that true?
