Dog Lunging At Other Pets and Children

by Sarah
(Atlanta, Ga)

I have an approx. 2 yr old Australian Shepherd/Collie mix that is a rescue. I have had her for 4 months now. She lunges at other dogs, cats, etc, and is starting to lunge at children. How do I nip this behavior in the bud? Our doggy friends are scared of her.

You need to take your dog to an obedience class and stop this behavior by learning how to correct it and redirect the dog's attention.

Training will help
by: Anonymous

Register for a training class and address the behavior right away becuase it may continue to get worse. Also, be sure to establish yourself as the ALPHA, she must follow your instruction. Aussies will take the lead if you give them the opportunity which is not good. If you are beside the dog when she's doing it she may be considering you her "high valued resource" and is guarding. This can turn more aggressive if not addressed right away and redirected. Work with your dog, show her you're in charge and you will reap the rewards!
