Dog Pet Supplies For Work, Rest, And Play: Finding the Best Dog Product for Your Aussie

By Anton Hout, author of The Guide to Aussie Training & Care

Dog pet supplies are a necessity no matter what breed you own, but there are particular dog products you'll be wanting for your Australian Shepherd. The key to being a good dog parent is keeping your pup happy and healthy and that means not only providing food and water but also making sure he gets lots of exercise. There is a whole range of supplies you can use to accomplish this and you don't have to break your budget in order to get them.

Obviously you'll need the basics, such as food and water bowls, collars and harnesses, and leashes. Bowls come in many shapes and sizes and can be practical or more designer if you prefer. The only real rule involved is to make sure that the bowls you choose are large enough so that your dog is getting the right amount of food and water on a regular basis.

Leashes and harnesses are important safety equipment for any breed. They can be used for obedience training and to allow you to control your dog while walking. A collar is one of the first dog pet supplies any owner buys and it should always fit comfortably without choking your dog but not be too loose so that there is no danger of it becoming snagged on something while your dog is working or playing.

There are dog pet supplies from balls, to treadmills, and everything in between—including some things you may not have even heard of.

A leash or harness also needs to fit properly and not be uncomfortable. There are many different types available and you'll want something that provides proper control without overwhelming your dog. You can even find harnesses specially designed for working dogs or even made with reflective material so that your dog can be more easily seen at night. For extra safety purposes, you might also want to invest in an electronic dog fence so that you can breathe easily while your dog runs free.

When it comes to high energy breeds like the Australian Shepherd, dog pet supplies may also include tools that allow your dog to work off excess energy, such as dog agility equipment or even a dog treadmill. Treadmills can be used both for exercise and physical therapy, which can also be important for working breeds that can be prone to wear and tear from regularly putting pressure on delicate limbs and joints.

There Are Dog Pet Supplies For Any Activity Or Occasion

Of course, being outside with your dog doesn't always have to entail working or competing in agility trials. You may just want to take long hikes to burn off energy and in that case a dog backpack can come in handy so that your pet can bring along all of his necessary supplies. Like leashes and harnesses, these packs come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit any breed and any lifestyle.

Because you'll also want to keep your dog safe, your dog pet supplies should also include important safety equipment such as a dog first aid kit and a cooling pad. This way you'll be ready for any kind of emergency, which can be common among the working breeds. Cooling pads in particular can be important to help your dog maintain a healthy body temperature during hot weather.

Whether you're playing, working, competing, or just hanging out with your four legged friend, you'll want to make sure he has everything he needs to stay safe, comfortable and happy. Being a responsible dog owner begins with making sure that you have the necessary supplies, so don't get caught short—make sure your best friend has the best of everything!
