Found a Tick

I noticed a tick just above the eye of my Aussie Cross. I didn't know what it was until it fell off, I actually thought it was a skin tag or something as the thought of a tick never crossed my mind. I took her and the tick to the vet, and am having the tick checked out for possible lyme or other diseases. Just one question. Are the double coated aussie more prone to ticks or is it usually less of an issue? I would assume they would be harder to find on the body but is it harder for the ticks to find a spot to latch on to. I am considering getting her groomed pretty close to skin so it will help me spot any potential issues.
