How Do I Interest My Aussie In Fetching And Playing?

My Aussie Jack is a rescue dog about 18 month old. I have had him since November. When I got him he did not know what a toy was or a ball or anything playful.

No matter how many times I try to get him interested in playing with a toy, ball or frisbee, I get very little reaction. He will go (fetch) get the item when I get him real excited but he rarely brings it back.

He is very loving. He seems very smart sometimes and dumb as a brick other times.

How do I get him to be interested in fetching and playing so he can get better exercise?

Thank you,

Sylvia

Same problem with my aussie
by: Anastasia Collett

My Aussie KEIRA is exactly the same like your dog. When I throw a ball for her, she runs after it. She comes when I call her, but, she doesn't bring her ball back. The best thing is to be patient with Jack. Next time when you take him to the park, take a couple of treats with you. Get his attention by either calling him or using a dog whistle. When you do get his attention, make sure he comes to you with his toy. Reward and praise him if he comes to you with his toy. Gently tap him on the snout and say NO very firmly if he doesn't bring his toy back. Aussie owners need a lot of patience.
