Lack Of Color Around Puppy's Eye

by Sam
(KY)

I'm supposed to be bringing this little girl home this coming week and got these pictures a couple days ago. I'm concerned with the lack of color around her right eye.

I've read this could potentially cause eye health issues, especially in the presence of a more pink eye lid area. Her eyelids don't appear to be pink, but I would like the advice of someone more familiar with the issue than me.

I won't be showing her or anything, so the look of it doesn't bother me. I just don't want to take on a pup that is likely going to have health issues from the start, if that's the case.

Thanks for any help.

Face color

I'm not an expert, but my 3 yo male black tri has white around one eye similar to your pup & no issues with his sight. He also has blue eyes.

Check with Breeder

Most reputable breeders do health screenings on their puppies. Including an eye check, hip and more.. If they didn't then I would be wary of purchasing this pup.... adorable as this one is.

No eye issue

I have a red tri with the same issue. Her sister was masked perfect. But I had to have Ellie. She is three yrs old now and no issues with her eyes. I hope it stays that way she is the best dog I have ever had!

Colour fault

The breed standard for Aussies requires colour around the eyes, which means you cannot show a dog with white eye surround. But it is not a health issue and has nothing to do with eye problems. I think your new pup looks adorable and will give you lots of Aussie love and affection!
