Male Australian Shepherd Over Possessive With Our Other Female Dog

by Katia Young
(Charleston, SC)

I have 2 Australian Shepherds, a male 6 years old and a female 5 years old. They grow up together, but a time passes the male is becoming very protective and possessive about the female playing with other dogs when we go to the dog park.

He barks to the female and tries to herd her away from the group and barks to the other dogs. Today was the first time he got very aggressive towards to a specific dog that was playing with the female dog.

I want to know why, if this is normal in Australian Shepherds and what can I do to mend/fix this situation?
