Miniature Aussies

by Dorothy
(Dundee, MI)

What is the difference between an Aussie and a Miniature Aussie other than size? Does a Miniature live as long, do they have different genetic problems? More problems? Some history would be great. I have an Aussie and just have been wondering... do they have a similar personality? Thanks.

I am one to have always adopted mutts in the past. We had two. One day my boyfriend and I fell in love with this little mini aussie we saw. We would not leave without him. He is the best thing that has happened to our family. He will be two on July 21st. I think that you are always taking your chance with a dog as far as having problems. Steele (our Aussie) is wonderful and we have had not one problem with him. One of our other days has a seizure disorder and is diabetic. When you take on a dog, you do what you can to take care of them (just like a child). After all, they are part of the family! Good luck.

Very similar personalities just a smaller stature. Love this breed. Incredible intelligence, versatility and very loving. Only issues appear with breeding merles - like with the regular aussies. They are now foundation stock with the AKC and the name has changed to the Miniature American Shepherd.
