We were at a trade day years ago and I saw a cage with 4 Aussie puppies in it. I stopped and looked and one of the puppies was a small red merle male, no points or marking just a red merle. I fell in love at first site and told my husband I had to have him, he of course said no but I would not leave the puppy. So we bought him and I got a wonderful friend for the next 17 1/2 years.

We competed in obedience, agility and conformation. He almost always took a first place, so smart I swear he could read my mind, LOL He was very protective of me but if I told him to be nice he would be, but if something threatened me he would take care of it. Like a cow or pig etc. attacking me never got a chance.

I took him just about everywhere I went, work, errands, anywhere that allowed dogs. He stayed by my side every day, he watched me all the time. At 17 years he had a stroke and the vet said he could improve or get worse so we waited a week to see because they said he was in no pain. He actually got better for 3-4 days then one week later he was a lot worse so we made the hard decision to take him and have him put down so he could go to heaven. One day I'll see him again, I know he's there waiting for me.

I love him still, it's been four years and I still think of him often. I finally got another Aussie puppy 5 months ago, I'd been afraid that I would compare to Red and find the puppy lacking but I have a wonderful girl named Busy that is special in her own way.

Only An Aussie Owner Knows
by: DwayneAnonymous

Only an aussie owner that has lost one knows the pain another owner is going through. I have lost dogs before but Bo was my first aussie i ever owned and when i lost him i lost my world.I like you took him every where and oh how he loved women and children. You did the best thing getting your girl just like my new girl.I just knew there would never be a dog that could match my boy but God has taken his spirit and instilled it into her and she is even better than my Bo was.I pray God will do the same for you in your new puppy just give her a chance
