Pink, On 5 Year Old Tri Mini Lower Lips, Nose And Eye Rims

by Chuck
(Reno, NV)

Roxy is 5 years old and always has had black nose, eye rims and lower jaw lips. In the last six months her black line around her lower lips has turned pink the same color as her gums. Her lips on the lower jaw also turned pink. Now her nose is turning pink and the rims around her eyes are pink also. Also her eyelash on the right side is turned white along with her feeler on that side. Roxy is a Mini Tri Black Tan & White, 5 Years old.

My Abbey has the same thing. She is 9 and it is fine. I don't remember what the vet said when it happened but I think it is nothing serious.

I have known labs with black noses and lips that turned pink due to eating out of stainless steel bowls. Sounds crazy, but true.

Interesting about the stainless steel bowls. I had heard the same about plastic bowls and changed to stainless steel. Oops. Does anyone else have experience here?

We had a biopsy on Roxy's nose and lip area. Lab and Pathologist said symptom of Vitiligo. No cancer etc. Keep her out of the sun. Use sunscreen on nose, use sunvisor for dogs and sunglasses for eyes. They don't know cause and no cure. Is not life threatening. At least she looks good in the Doggles sunglasses.

Update on Roxy

Roxy now has a lot of pink on her nose and her coat. On her head there is a lot of white hairs in the black area. Also white strands in here entire coat. Both eyelashes have turned white. Now there is a white patch on the tip of her left ear. Her lower jaw lips have de-pigmented from black to pink. Her general health is good.
