Proper Puppy Weight

My male Aussie is 38 pounds and will be 5 months in 2 weeks. Is this a bit heavy for a large puppy and am I headed toward downright fat? I know this would be a bad direction and risk for hip dysplasia. The omnipresent rain has really taken a toll on his exercise program.
