Puppy With Attachment Issues

Hello, I have a 6 month old male Aussie. When I got him he was really timid and scared being away from his littermates for the first time. I comforted him and he quickly attached to me. Staying extremely close to me at all times. So much so that I could not walk without tripping over him. He has no independence whatsoever. I have taken him to horse shows and such to be sure he gets socialized but he really does not care about other people but me. He will let anyone pet him but he just stares at me the whole time. I've tried not paying attention to him and having other people interact with him. He just doesn't care. Every time I pet him he shakes uncontrollably with excitement and whines. What exercises can I do with him to make him a little bit more independent. Don't get me wrong I love that he is loyal but this is extreme.
