Pure Bred? How Can I Tell?

by Jani
(Ohio)

We got our Aussie at the Humane Society, and some people say he is pure bred others say he isn't. Is there a way to tell??

Note from Anton: You can now easily get a DNA test done like this one... Wisdom Panel Dog DNA Kit.

Pure Bred? and how can you tell
by: Anne

Hi,
Besides tracking down the breeder, which is tough with a dog from a shelter, without the paperwork or a microchip to identify that particular
aussie.
DNA testing is the only sure way to tell.
The Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA - www.asca.org) has the paperwork and instructions, plus cost on how to DNA test your Aussie.
Good Luck

Pure Bred Aussie?
by: Anonymous

DNA testing. I got a brittany pup once from the dog pound. I never had her tested but I know in my heart she was a purebred because of the way she looked compared to others. It does not matter. Get the dog fixed. My aussie does not have papers but is suppose to be a purebred. Again it does not matter. You love them just the same. Enjoy your aussie. They are the best!
