Sufficient Exercise For 5 Month Old Miniature Aussie Shepherd Puppy

by Samantha
(UK)

I have a 5-month old Miniature Australian Shepherd and would like to know how many kilometers I can safely walk my puppy each day "in total" without damaging his growing hips.

I am a very outdoor person and enjoy walking.

Can you advise me at the same time at what age I can increase the walking distance to a point where it would be possible to walk distances of 12 to perhaps 16 kilometers per day in one outing OR half these distances over 2 outings.

With thanks

Walking with your Aussie
by: Anne

Hi,
Walk your aussie puppy until it gets tired. As it grows its stamina will increase and you can walk farther with your aussie.
Basically it all up to your Aussie as too how far to walk.
Hope that helps.

Dont over do it

Sounds like you already know this but do not run your pup till tired. The rule of thumb is 5 mins per month of their age of hard exercise. Tire them out mentally with training, interactive toys and chew toys, don't rely on running to use their energy up
