Tail Docking Suture

by Tricia
(Manassas, VA)

My 8 year old Aussie has spun around like a bee has stung him on his bum. Its a common occurrence for him. (We've checked to see what the problem was but never found anything.) The other day he did it again, but with a loud yelp and then a very scared look on his face. He started chewing at his tail nub. Upon very close inspection, we found a suture thread. I know he hasn't had any surgeries beside neutering. We cut the suture out and the poor little guy kept readjusting himself when he sat. Could this have caused the pain? He looked so relieved... Has anyone else had this experience? His anal glands are fine. That was my first thought.
