Thunderstorms

How do you deal with fear of thunderstorms. My Aussie is terrified, he shakes, pants and tries to get out of the house if one occures and we are not home. Other than his fear of storms and loud noises, he is a great dog. We hate durging him, do you have any other suggestions.

My Aussies are not usually bothered, but one of my Siberian Huskies goes out of his mind - so I give him "Calms" a homeopathic remedy - at health food stores and/or Rescue Remedy. I put him in a crate until the noise is through. when we are not at home and know there will be thunderstorms or gunfire, he is in his crate. This seems to soothe him.

Our sweet little jessie does the same thing. I watch the weather and when i know its going to storm i leave the door to our walk in closet open, for some reason she feels more secure away from the windows and further from the noise. I put her blanket on the floor in there and she seems happier if she has a place she can go hide if she wants.
