Two Aussies, One Family?

Anyone have experience with introducing a new older Aussie with a younger one? We have a 17 month old but have come across a six year old who needs a home. Heartbroken for the older dog and would love our pup to have a friend, but need it to be the right thing for both dogs.

Introducing older aussie

Try taking them both to neutral grounds for meet and greet, and hopefully playtime. Neither will be aggressive or defensive this way.

That's what we did

We re-homed a 6yo neutered male Aussie 2 years ago. We brought our then 18 month old female pup to a play date where there were multiple Aussies - including this male Aussie needing a home - and they all got along well. We played with him as well and loved his goofy nature.

We thought about it then introduced them to each other on their own and they got along brilliantly. They are now bonded pack mates.

Our older dog looks at us with adoration and thankyou eyes everyday.

I'm glad we did it.
