What Tests Are Required To Register An Aussie?

by Dakota
(Colorado)

I am looking to get into breeding Aussies, and I want to be sure in my full knowledge of the breed. I know that to register under ASCA you have to have DNA testing, but what does this include?

Other tests I know of:

CERF (Annually? After what age?)

OFA This seems like a very wide test, is it only for hips or elbows?

Please, any assistance would be great, I want to know so that I can select the correct pup from the correct breeder. And so that I can be a responsible breeder and maintain the health of my pups.

A pretty comprehensive list can be found at this site.

Depending on your dog's background, he//she may be clear-by-parentage of some and would not need to be tested again. These also aren't required to register, but should be done to adhere to the breeding code of ethics. The most important are probably CERF annually, hip and elbow dysplasia through OFA or Pennhip, MDR1, and all of the common eye diseases (HC, JC, CEA, PRA).
