Play Barking

This is not really a problem behavior as it shouldn’t really be "excessive." The solution is simple enough – play with your dog! You can tell this kind of barking because it’s usually paired with the “play bow” body language we covered in Chapter 2.

If this kind of barking is a problem, you’re probably actually dealing with barking that results from boredom or a lack of exercise.

Barking Because of Boredom or Lack of Exercise

Remember, Aussies are a high energy breed and need plenty of exercise. If you don’t provide that, they’ll find ways of doing it themselves. Running around and barking becomes a way to burn up energy – but if you don’t correct it, the barking issue can become a habit. Then the dog will bark excessively without having any real reason to do so.

Again, the solution is simple. Take your dog for longer walks or use more high intensity exercise methods. Make sure you keep up the training and games as well for mental stimulation. Because Aussies are smart dogs, keeping their brains occupied is just as important as keeping them physically active.
