Australian Shepherd Photo of the Week

Australian Shepherd Dog Photo of the Day

Gini Shilt

Cash, a red-tri full size Awesome Aussie, 4 years old is the Official Airport Dog and takes his responsibilities seriously, cordially welcoming visitors and displaying good manners. He had knee surgery this past January 31/13, 8 weeks later he was again able to walk and run almost as well as he did prior to his injury. After our first Aussie, there was no question that when we needed to get another dog, it would be an Aussie. Cash is our third and more than lives up to our expectations that he would be a wonderful dog. He’s a sweetheart.

Microchipping Your Dog

It sounds a little like sci-fi when you first hear about it, but it’s pretty common these days for dogs to have microchips inserted under their skin. These chips are identification – they’re programmed with your important information and contact details so that if they get lost, someone with a microchip scanner (most vets have these) can find out who the owner is.

In other words, getting your puppy microchipped helps increase the chances of getting her back if she ever gets lost or stolen.

It’s pretty easy to get your dog microchipped and in some countries you can get it done for free. It’s also fairly painless for the dog. Don’t put this one off - if you lose your pup while she’s young and you haven’t chipped her, you’ll kick yourself for it. Get in touch with your vet or local Animal Control to find out how the process works where you live.
