Australian Shepherd Photo of the Week

Australian Shepherd Dog Photo of the Day

Rhonda Bible

This is my Beautiful Round Em Up's Rock-N-Roll Elvis, raised here on my small Aussie farm and kennel in Northeast Mississippi. This picture was taken in the back pasture as he was playing and he was so magnificent I just had to turn it in. He is the grandson of my original male Round em up Romeo and my blue eyed Betsy girl. His father is a red merle from Southwest Tennesee. He is so happy go lucky and loving with a wiggle butt to die for. He will be a great addition to my breeding program.

Reaching New Heights

The majority of what you need to know to have a happy, well-behaved Aussie has already been covered. This chapter is here to help you take training to the next level by adding some tricks and advanced commands. These commands aren't as practical as the other ones we've covered so far. Rather, they're fun drills for you to do with your dog. They're tricks to impress people and keep your dog's mind stimulated.

But they do have a positive effect on behavior, too. The more commands you teach and the more you train, the better behaved your dog will be overall. And regular mental stimulation helps relieve boredom, which means your dog will be less likely to resort to destructive behaviors to keep herself entertained.

To be successful teaching advanced training, you'll probably need to go a little beyond the methods we've used so far. This is where clicker training really comes into its own.
