Australian Shepherd Photo of the Week

Australian Shepherd Dog Photo of the Day

Kim Callaert

My Aussie, a red merle female at 1 year and 7 months old, named Aika. This is a picture taken on a sunny day at a recreation domain in Belgium. Trying to make her stand still to take some great photos, she just slipped throughout her collar and that only after 2 minutes standing still. That is way too long for this piece of energy! This is the result after a call from me, just after a couple passed with two little dogs who were in a panic she'd eat them. :D The women even let slip a little scream for this cute one!

Frisbee, AKA Disc Dog

We've already touched on this as being a fun game to play around home, but Frisbee is actually a serious competitive sport too! In the competitive world it's referred to as disc dog.

If you're interested in advanced training and your dog loves Frisbee, this is one to check out. This is like the gymnastics or synchronized swimming of dog sports – you can teach your dog to do all sorts of exotic moves when she jumps to catch the disc. There are also distance catching competitons, as well as a wide range of other variations on the sport.

It sounds a little complex, but really there's not much skill needed to get started in organized disc dog competitions. As long as your dog can chase and catch a Frisbee, you can enter and have some fun.

Dog Quote of the Week

"You call to a dog and a dog will break its neck to get to you. Dogs just want to please. Call to a cat and its attitude is, 'What's in it for me?'"
