Australian Shepherd Photo of the Week

Australian Shepherd Dog Photo of the Day

Photo: Lisa Eldrett

This is a picture of Frazer celebrating his 10th Birthday which was on 3rd May. It looks as though he was singing Happy Birthday to himself. I hate to think of him getting old but he still looks and acts like a much younger dog, and is always so happy. We now live in South Lincolnshire, England. Which is a very flat county with huge skies and open fields. Lots of hares and deer to chase and then dream about.

Bathing Your Dog

It isn't necessary to bathe your dog every time you groom her, which is why I haven't included this as part of the steps above. That said, it can make the job of clipping and brushing easier if you bathe her after the first undercoat rake. Just be sure to dry her off thoroughly before you start clipping, so you have a clear idea of how the finished product will look. If you trim wet hair it'll look different when it dries.

Bathing your dog is pretty similar to washing your own hair. You simply wet the dog, apply the shampoo, and leave it in for 2-3 minutes before rinsing it out. You can then do the same with a conditioner. Only use products which are designed for dogs, as their coat requirements are different from the requirements of human hair, so human shampoo can do more harm than good.
