Guide To Australian Shepherd Training & Care

USA, Washington, 2 Year Old, Odin

Odin is a smart, loving dog with anxiety issues that make it impossible to keep him in our home, despite our most fervent attempts to help him adapt to our family. He needs a home with an experienced trainer that can provide him with a more stable environment and a higher level of activity, or one in which he can run outside all day chasing lizards. I am confident the right home is out there for him.

He is a neutered male. He is crate trained, housebroken, and comfortable with a muzzle or cone. He waits politely for his meals. He is great on a leash. He willing accepts brushing and nail trimming. He excels at agility. He responds to the following commands: sit, down, touch, focus, stay, come, drop it, leave it, heel, head down, wait, hush, bow, roll, find it, take it, up, off, go to jail (his pen), crate, bedtime, go to your spot. He has learned the following in agility: tunnel, tire, table, mark, weave, walk it, over and teeter.

He has high levels of anxiety, which we have reduced significantly with behavior modification protocols from a veterinary behaviorist and the help of a combination of Trazadone, Fluoxetine and Clonidine. However, he is still unsettled by visitors to our home, even our own college-aged children who come and stay for weeks at a time. He has a bite history, though it happened while he was recovering from a veterinary procedure to remove a torn claw and he was on pain medications.
