Australian-Shepherd-Lovers.com Newsletter #074

Hi Everyone,

Is It Safe To Give Your Australian Shepherd Meds?

This month we really want to focus on drug safety. There are too many tragic stories about dogs being seriously harmed and even dying when exposed to certain drugs.

Even if you think you know all about drugs that are dangerous to Aussies due to the MDR1 gene mutation you will still want to check out this months new articles. Your dog can get into unexpected sources of these drugs that you need to be aware of and to look out for.

In addition to our new article about Ivermectin, Trifexis and the MDR1 gene mutation we want to also let you know about Rimadyl. While this is a drug primarily used for joint pain in dogs with arthritis there are also other uses that could expose Aussies, young and old, to it's often serious (and sometimes fatal) side-effects.

On another topic, remember if you like our site you can help support us (without any extra cost to you) by ordering from these merchants and using our links each time before you order. We'd really appreciate it. :-)

Cheers,

~ Anton

Rimadyl for DogsIs Rimadyl For Dogs Safe?

Rimadyl for dogs (also known as Carprofen) is used as an anti-inflammatory and pain treatment for arthritis joint pain and soft tissue damage. But is it safe for your Aussie? While Rimadyl is considered relatively safe and is FDA approved for use in dogs it is not without risks. There is a growing volume of anecdotal "evidence" of dogs suffering ill effects up to and including death.

Dog Quote for Today

Okay, it's technically not a "dog quote" but it's something I came across that I hope you enjoy...

You know you have a velcro dog when:

  • You can't remember the last time you went to the bathroom alone.
  • You've forgotten what it's like to take a solo flight through a doorway.
  • You always feel like someone is watching you and you're not paranoid.
  • Your dog jumps up to follow you when you just think about standing up.
  • There is snot art on your shower door.
  • You don't need to turn on the heater because your dog keeps you warm.
  • You try to sneak out of the house but it never works.
  • You panic if you find your dog spending time alone (must be sick!).
  • Your dog snoops your stuff when you come home.
  • If your dog is taking a nap, you hate to get up and disturb him.
  • You forget that not all clothes are covered in dog fur.
  • Sometimes you feel like a piece of furniture.
  • Personal space is now just a foggy notion.
  • The second your shoes are tied your dog is waiting halfway between you and the front door.
  • Sneak a treat? Forget about it!
  • Your dog is happy to be with you-every day, every hour, every minute, every second…
  • To get to you, they'll have to get through the dog first.
  • You never have worry about being alone.
  • You sleep well knowing your dog is always right there
