Ear Infections

by Kathleen
(Salem, MA)

Are mini Aussies prone to ear infections? My Max who is 11 years old seems to get them once or twice a year. I can't figure out how or why this is happening? Any thoughts on this?

I have had several Aussies and have had problems with ear infections with each one. I don't know what exactly causes them but with an ear wash it clears up pretty fast. You just have to keep an eye on them. Anyone knows what causes it let me know.

My aussie has never had an ear infections. Usually dogs with long floppy ears get them (my lab get them all the time). Just use the ear wash from the vet (Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser $16) and the prescription drops (don't remember the name but it cost $30 for a very small bottle). Clean once a week and put a couple of drops in the ear. Works great for my lab.
