Rescue an Aussie

by Kathy O'Hara
(Santa Cruz, CA)

Jiggs landed in the Bakersfield shelter, dirty, emaciated and with a dislocated hip. Had it not been for Animal Friends Rescue Project, a great local rescue organization, he surely would have been euthanized. Instead he was cleaned up, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and his hip was surgically repaired. They also fostered him through his recovery. I met him at an adoption event last November and fell in love with this handsome red-bi with amber eyes. I'd lost my 12 year old blue merle a few months before to cancer and Jiggs was my ticket out of the funk! He rescued me! He's such a sweet goofball.. my third Aussie. They're simply the best! Because I am so grateful to have been able to adopt this terrific dog, I volunteer as an animal transporter for AFRP... trying to make the same magic happen for others. Adopt an Aussie!

I lost my boy, Luke just a few weeks ago. I miss him so, He was my first experience with an Aussie. I'm looking in a shelter now, that has one, a girl, reddish/ brown also (my luke was tri-color). My question to you is: you mentioned this was your 3rd aussie, did the other 2 die? You mentioned the one that died of cancer (mine was epilespy) what was your 2nd? I'm almost afraid to get another true bred because of it.

Awesome!
