3-Year-Old Australian Shepherd Showing Aggression Against Dogs Who Come In Our Yard

Our 3-year-old female Australian Shepherd has begun to show aggression against other dogs who come in our yard or approach my husband or me in our yard. Help!

I’ve been told that this is typical behavior (or more common) as they get older. Mine is now 6 and she used to back away from dogs who came at her now she stands her ground and goes back at them. I don’t like it but have not ever read any way to change it other than more and more socialization. Dog parks are about my only option since I live in the country. So far she is not that way with people coming up to me but I fear that could be the next step. We take her everywhere she is allowed to go.

I do think her yard is her domain so it’s tougher to stop the behavior. I find with Aussies you have to be able to continually reinforce behavior.
