4 Yr Old Aussie Having Issues Getting Up After A Nap

by Chad
(Brighton, MI, USA)

I have an Aussie that just turned 4 and about 3 weeks ago I noticed he had some issues getting up from a nap... I took him to the vet and they seemed to think because it wasn't hurting him at all, it was probably a strain or something... they prescribed Rimadyl and off I went.

It seems to be getting worse... at first, it was just his left rear leg... but now he is having problems getting off the ground at all and I think after observation, it seems to be almost spreading to his front legs...

I have read a few online Q and A's and most point to arthritis or hip displaysia...but the way it seems to be spreading doesn't sit well with me...

4 yr Old Aussie Issues Getting Up
by: Marilyn

My first thouht when I started reading was hip dysplacia, our Shepherd went down hill extremely fast, within months to be exact. But now you say it's affecting the front as well. This is not something to guess on. I tried to research a bit for you too, but not much luck. I'm wondering if there is something causing pressure on the spine somewhere and affecting the nerves?? Honestly if the dog were mine, (have a 3 1/2 yr old Aussie) I would suggest an MRI or CAT be done asap. Don't like to suggest it but a fast growing tumour near the spine can cause these symptoms.
All the best & I sincerely hope this all turns out well for both of you. :-)
