Are Blonde and White Australian Shepherd Puppies at Risk of Vision or Hearing Problems?

by Kevin
(Nashville, Il)

A friend's Aussies had nine pups. Both parents look like they're black tri. But the pups are a bit of everything. There are three blonde and white pups.

Would these blonde pups have a high risk of vision or hearing problems? Would this only be a problem if they were to have puppies?

White pups

Are you saying that two tris produced solid white pups? I would be more inclined to think that two merles were bred in this situation.

Yellow

The pups are rather the color of a yellow Lab, Golden retriever or buff Cocker, yes? Then they're yellows, a recessive color in the Aussie gene pool. With 2 tri parents, they are no more at risk of color related defects than their black siblings. However, the color IS a disqualifying fault that should never be bred from, and for a reason. Yellow obscures merle, so you can't tell if a yellow us a merle and may unintentionally breed 2 merles that was. Your pups aren't merles, but still make sure they're fixed.
