Australian Shepherd Aggression with Animals in Yard

My Aussie does not like or tolerate animals in her territory - she has killed a variety of animals (except dogs) in the yard. The other day she was laying by a dead cat. The disturbing part was the face of this cat was gone! Is it normal for a dog to tear the face off an animal. Not sure if she ate it or even if she did kill the cat (I think she did considering her history). These cats come out of the woods - they are feral cats and not someone's pet. Your thoughts. Otherwise this dog is very loving to us and we love her.
