My Australian Shepherd is 9 years old and has recently been showing aggressive, unpredictable behavior especially towards children and adult males. She has also had short periods of excessive, heavy panting while laying still. Ailment or aging?

Check out her eyesight as she may not be seeing so well and be 'taken by surprise' when people/children approach her.

With your dog's age, I would take her to the vet, describe your problem and have a complete work-up done on her. Your visit to the vet would be the best place to start in combating this problem.
