Australian Shepherd Has Bald Spots, and Is Itching and Scratching

by Andre
(Pittsburgh)

My Aussie is three and she has started getting bald patches on her skin. She has been licking and scratching different areas and her butt.

What type of allergy could be causing this?

Itchy Aussie

Poor pup! Have you changed her food recently? Some dogs, mine included, are allergic to chicken. Diet is often the culprit in dog allergies. Are you using any new products cleaners etc? Plug-in air fresheners can cause this as well. I suggest putting her on a low ingredient diet, which a vet can help with, and look around her environment for anything that is different lately.

Anal glands

I wonder if she needs her anal glands expressed. Some groomers will do this or your vet could as well.
