Australian Shepherd Jumping Over Fence

Beautiful Shadow

Beautiful Shadow

We gave our beautiful Australian Shepherd, Shadow, a 4 ft chain link fence to run in the backyard. Today a chainsaw scared her evidently.

I went in the house for minute and thought she was fine. When I had been out with her she didn't seem scared.

My husband called said a neighbor found her loose. Thank God they got her on a leash. If I lose her I'll have a heart attack. What do we do now?

How can I fortify the fence or make it taller? How can I keep her from doing it when she sees a cat or dog in the neighborhood that she chases in the backyard but has never tried to jump before?

Any help is appreciated. Please and thank you.

fence line

Because we had a problem with feral cats and raccoons using the back yard as a latrine, I installed an electric fence wire at the top of our chainlink fence. It is a low voltage wire, designed for chickens and other small animals. It gives a little shock (like touching a metal door handle in winter). But that is enough to dissuade without harming. It should keep your pup inside the fence. It's easy to install. I use a solar powered little fence charger. You can get all the supplies at Amazonor directly from a manufacturer online.
