Australian Shepherd Puppy With Ectopic Ureter

by Gabby C
(Dallas, Texas)

Hello!! My name is Gabby, and I heard a ton of great things about this site. I wanted to share Millie’s story to see if there was anyone else that may have gone through something like this or just any advice to help at all.

Millie is a 4 month old Australian Shepherd. We adopted her a few weeks ago and found out after 4 vet visits and an ultra sound later that she has an ectopic ureter as well as a failing kidney due to Hydronephrosis. The previous owners claim they purchased her from a breeder, but have neglected to give us any paperwork. When I asked them about her condition, they claimed they were unaware she had any symptoms.

Millie is getting a CT scan in a couple of days to figure out if her ectopic ureter can be repaired and also remove her right kidney.

We found out about this condition because Millie is constantly leaking urine all day, even in her sleep. We knew this wasn’t just normal puppy behavior.

If anyone has any insight or a relatable story, I would love any comments all all!

Thank you in advance.
