Australian Shepherd White Around The Eyes

How much color is needed around the eyes to not be considered a mismark? Is a white mismark around the eyes a sign of potential blindness? For example, if a dog has a lot of white but the eyes are surrounded by some color, is that a mismark or a health concern? If one of the eyes only has a little bit of color that fully encircles the eye, is that okay?

Color on Aussie
by: KimbersGyspy

Mine is white from her nose to her shoulders, with a black dot on her ear. She was just a mismark. She is over 3 years old, and as healthy as can be! If it's a pup, I don't think you will know until they can be tested for vision or hearing.

Mismarks in Aussies

The Aussie breed standard says there should be colour, and eyebrows, around both eyes. White around the eye is considered a mismark. But white markings have no health concerns in this breed, such as blindness or deafness. An all white eye, even an all white head, can still be a beautiful dog and a great companion if the breed lines are good.
