Australian Shepherd With Dry, Flaky, Itching, And Shedding Large Amounts Of Hair

by George Moss
(Costa Mesa, California)

My Aussie's name is Lucy and is nine years old. Lucy has developed dry, flaky, itchy skin and is shedding large amounts of hair. I recently changed her food, to food for older dogs, which she likes.

I know of omega 3 supplements but do not know which one would be safe for my Lucy. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
George

Omega 3

For your Aussie, Krill oil is a very good source of omega 3.

Aussie skin problems

If you have recently changed her food and now she is getting problems, it could be the food! My 2yr old male began itching suddenly and I changed away from a chicken based food, and it stopped. Many dogs are allergic to chicken. Skin issues are usually caused by allergies or some kind of bacterial infection, so,if it isn't the food, I would have a vet look at it.
