Australian Shepherd With Excessive Shedding

by Tamara
(California)

Hi all! Yes, I know Australian Shepherds shed A LOT! This is my second Aussie, so I am familiar with shedding. My girl is 3 years old and NOT spayed. This is the second time she has completely blown her coat almost to the point I'm getting concerned. What she has left is shiny and in great condition, but she looks terrible, thin, and emaciated. She is the proper weight, and everything else is fine. She's eating and playing, it's just this shedding is more than usual.

Anyone else experience this? I have a hunch it has to do with her not being spayed?

Thanks!

If she's healthy and normal weight, I wouldn't worry. You may be reacting to seeing a big difference in winter coat versus summer coat. I don't think it has anything to do with her being intact. The amount of shedding seems to be an individual thing. Aussie coats vary.
