I'm looking for a good, reliable, and most of all SAFE heartworm medicine for my Australian Shepherd and Sheltie mix. He is 4 yrs old.

Revolution

I have used Revolution for years with good results. It is expensive and must be purchased from a Vet but it is very convenient. Just squeeze a tube between the shoulder blades once a month and it controls heart worm, fleas, ticks, mites and mange.

For heartworm prevention, we are currently using Sentinel.

Regardless of your choice, you must first have your dog tested to ensure it doesn't carry a specific gene. If it does, the improper dose of heartworm medicine can be fatal. The test isn't that expensive.
