Breeding My Australian Shepherd

by Elizabeth Williams
(NY)

Hi! So I'm thinking about breeding my Australian Shepherd and I know I have to get her tested and all that, which means I have to get her certified, correct?

Do I have to do ALL the testing or can I just do the REQUIRED OFA testing for her breed? Also, my Aussie is a red tri, and I would like to breed her to a red factored blue merle, which means I'll hopefully get all four coats?

Thank you for all your help! :)

You should get her hips/OFA and her eyes checked, then a DNA health panel - Paw Print Genetics/Neogen is recognized by several registries, there's also Embark. Then yes a red factored blue merle male (who also has all the necessary testing) would give you the potential of all 4 colors.
