Cooper Our Australian Shepherd Has A Limp

by Chris
(Pitt Meadows)

Cooper and I were out for the usual hike of about 6 km, he asks me to throw sticks on occasion, so he went after one and came back with a limp. This has been a week now and off and on still has a limp. What to do and when should he be looked at??

Thanks Chris

Aussie limp

Dogs can be pretty stoic about pain, and if he is still limping after a week, I would certainly get him checked out by a vet. If there is a crack in one of the bones or something that is not looked after it can lead to expensive mobility problems down the road.

My not-quite-five male Aussie developed a limp which an X-ray showed is caused by arthritis in his wrist and shoulder.

If there no obvious signs (eg a cut or splinter) and he's still limping a week later then get him checked. If it was a stone bruise or a strain it should be coming right by now - unless his current activity is aggravating it.
