Dealing With Aggression in Our Australian Shepherd

by Samantha Brooks
(St. Louis, MO, USA)

Hey fellow Aussie owners,

I need some advice. My 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, Max, has always been a bit protective, but recently, his behavior has escalated. He snapped at a neighbor's child during a walk in one of our St. Louis parks, and though there was no contact, it was enough to shake me up. I’ve been reading up on dog bite statistics, and I’m concerned about the implications.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their Aussies? How did you handle it? I’m considering professional training, but I’d love to hear about your experiences and any advice you can offer.

Thanks in advance!

Having an Aggressive Aussie
by: Catherine

I had this issue with my one Aussie six years ago. Nothing helped then. Today try cb oil for this. I tried everything she was aggressive and attacking randomly. She was fearful. But was loving to a few. Trainers did not want to work with her. I had to put her down after seven, my favorite and smartest girl. I am crying now still to this day. Some are just born this way. I tried everything but it actually got worse so we believe inherited. It was neurological. Try all you can. I did. New things today. This was six years ago. Protect your dog from things that trigger it and work within these limitations in order to prevent issues. Some dogs are born this way. My problem was seven years and I protected her. It was six years ago I let her go and rest. It seems to upset the animal too. It is still so painful because I always think did I try enough. The last time was attacking the vet. It was progressing. Try oils and keep your dog away from triggers. Much love to you.
