Do Australian Shepherd Puppies Run With One Hip To The Side?

I found an Australian Shepherd puppy that I wish to purchase but when it ran a short distance, its hind legs were to the side. Is that normal for a puppy?

no, I don't believe so, he may need an alignment, easy fix, at a chiropractor or vet.

running to the side

This is called "crabbing". Yes, It is common and it has to do with structure of the puppy.
If you are not going to show this puppy in "conformation" then I would not worry about it.

sideways running
by: Muffin's Mom

Our Aussie Muffin, now 2 yrs old, also runs in this same manner. Our vet has checked her out from head to toe and she always gets a clean bill of health. It is indeed just the way some Aussies run. It almost seems like her head isn't getting there fast enough for her behind!

So normal

Yes it is normal. When they are excited to see you they will bring their behind forward as they walk or run. I would not worry about it this is normal behavior.

Aussie puppy running side ways
by: Shasta's Mom

Our 3 month old red Shasta approaches us in a sideway manner. We think, if she could speak, she would say, "I'm so glad to see you, will you play with me?"
