Do Littermates of a Mismarked Australian Shepherd Puppy Also Carry the Gene?

by Maria
(South Carolina)

We are looking to get a puppy from a litter that has a mismark puppy in the litter. So my question is do the littermates carry the gene and can they pass it to their offspring? We intend to breed our pup.

Short answer yes. Though if you're familiar with a few generations of relatives and mismarks seem to be rare, you may have gotten lucky. But if you do breed, choose mates with minimal white and no known mismark relatives.
