Eating Grass

by mnw
(Florida)

All of the sudden, my 6 year old female Aussie has started eating a lot of grass. It does not seem to effect her, and she is very picky only to eat new grass. We have only had her for 8 months. If this a typical behavior?

We have a 2 year old aussie who has been eating fresh grass for a while, it shouldn't hurt her if it doesn't have any chemicals on it I was always told they have a stomach ache and it helps makes them to digest better...

Both my aussie and lab eat certain grass constantly (along with rabbit poop, but that is a different story!). It is their way of getting fiber to keep them regular. That is what I have read.

This is interesting. My Aussie likes to nibble on the tender tips of new grass and certain weeds. She also eats rabbit poop (which is basically digested grass) and occasionally decaying thatch from mown lawns. I've wondered whether she lacks something in her diet and even wondered about giving her alfalfa pellets, although I don't know what else is in them.
